Not Berry Good

Hey guys,

Sorry for the lack of the morning post. I've been pretty down today. I feel so icky, and I really want to go run, or go to the gym! Or just do regular things. My nose is also a little irritated right now, so it's a little painful. Not too bad, just annoying. So, sorry I haven't commented on your blogs. My google reader is piling up, but I can't find the motivation to get through it right now.

I tried the Amazing Grass Berry Superfood last night. You might be able to guess where this is headed by reading at the lame title.

On the package, it says you could mix it with water. So, that's what I did--big mistake. I hate to say it, but I have to be honest. It tasted gross, and I couldn't finish it. I'm guessing that if you mixed it in a smoothie, it'd be a lot better! But the berry powder didn't dissolve well in the water at all, and it was super grainy. I could pick out a berry hint of flavor if I thought about it, but the flavor was bland. It was mostly the texture that put me off--kinda like putting grass clippings in water. I tried to choke it down for a while, but then I just couldn't take anymore.

Now, I love the chocolate one! But it was probably a mistake to try to drink this straight with water. I've got another packet, so I'll try it in a smoothie. I hate to write a bad review, but I can't lie and say I loved this flavor. It will get a second chance, though!

I did try their Organic Green Superfood Bar, and I'm happy to say that it was good!

  • My review:
Unlike the gritty/grainy powder, the bar had a very smooth texture. I really enjoyed the organic date base, and I didn't notice a big "green" taste. It had a great minimal amount of sweetness, and I liked the contrast between the smooth base and the little crunch that the nuts brought. The bar clocks in at 220 calories, which is a little much for me on a regular basis. It's a great tasting bar with great ingredients, though!

For breakfast, I had a pumpkin greek yogurt parfait with a CranBran vitatop.

It was good--nothing you haven't seen before, though. Ignore the blue towel in the background. Ha.

I had a huge salad again for lunch, with goat cheese and strawberry balsamic dressing.

The serving bowl is getting some salad lovin' again!

I also had a corn thin with some Sabra caramelized onion hummus:

This stuff is so good! I'm so glad I found the Sabra brand. Hummus used to just be so-so to me before I tried it Sabra style.

Ok, sorry about the lackluster post. I'm just bored and feeling down about this whole surgery thing. Hopefully this will pass and I'll feel like my normal self soon. Hope you all are having a lovely day!

Q: How do you boost your mood when you're feeling down? (besides exercise, cause that's a no-no for another 5 weeks!)

Jenny is on to something there...coloring is very fun. When I feel down I dance crank up the tunes and dance around the house, of course dancing could be considered excercise. Funny movies are always good mood boosters, you could even just surf youtube for funny videos. I look forwards to reading more about your recovery and all of these tasty foods you eat.

    much love and best wishes,

    Lana

Ha, I actually like your title!

I can totally understand why you're feeling down :( But you've got lots of things to be excited about! I mean, after all this business, your nose is finally going to be better!! That's good a thing :)

When I'm feeling down, I like to cuddle up with a cheesy movie that I would never admit to liking. Being outdoors always makes me feel better too. I definitely suggest taking lots of strolls through your neighbourhood to get some fresh air and those limbs moving.

Take care! I hope you feel better!!

Oh my gosh - don't feel bad for not commenting! You're on the mend so you get a free pass ;) It's like maternity leave but for your nose!

Have you tried Basha hummus? It's made in Ypsi and it's my favah fav! Although caramelized onion hummus? I may have to break down and pick up that next time. Your girl loves her onions!

My suggestion isn't really going to help BUT when I'm feeling down and out I find that just getting out of the house whether it be by myself or just riding in the car while my mom does errands usually perks me up. Try to stay positive :)

Hope you feel better soon! I'm sorry you're feeling a little down. Hang in there!

Thanks for your honest review of the Berry Amazing Grass. I have to confess I'm a little skeptical of how all that stuff tastes.

When I'm feeling down, I like to journal or listen to music. It always lifts my mood. :-)

Sorry you're feeling down, I can imagine it's pretty tough at this point to just sit around. I love finding good books to read and scrapbooking became a hobby of mine awhile back. It occupies a lot of time!

Mmm that parfait sounds so good!

sorry you are feeling so down, Anne... What about watching some funny TV shows- Scrubs, Everybody Loves Raymond? Listening to some music, sitting in the garden, a manicure...just take it easy. i think it's probably quite 'natural' to feel emotionally upset when physically there is so much happening. natural, but not fun. :/ are you managing to get enough sleep?

I am so not tempted by the Amazing Greens- your parfait and salad however, look amazing :)

    Hullo!
This is Virginia's little sister. I found your blog while looking at people who're interested in harps. :D
Is it just food on here, or do you post about harp practicing and the trials of such on here too?
    I need inspiration. :P
    Erin =)

Hi Erin! This is predominantly a food and fitness blog, so I rarely talk about the harp. I doubt you'd find much harp inspiration here--sorry! I hope you find what you're looking for :)
