Lesson Learned

Hi guys,

I'm feeling better this morning, but oh my gosh I had the worst night's sleep ever! I spent the entire night incredibly nauseous, and totally thought I was going to throw up a few times. I think I know what happened, though. I took my vitamins/supplements before I went to bed, but too late after I had eaten. I take a multi vitamin that has iron in it, and it makes me queasy unless I take it right before bed. I can't even take it right with dinner, cause I still feel sick. However, I usually have a bigger dinner, and by the time I took it (12:30), it had been too long after I ate. I didn't get all that much sleep, but I'm actually just happy it's over and I'm feeling better! Lesson learned--make sure I have enough in my tummy when I take my multi! Phew!

I was hungry this morning, which was totally surprising! I haven't been physically hungry for breakfast since Arizona, where I was getting a lot more activity in a day. I made a big delicious parfait with one of the new (to me) vitatops--Bluebran.

BlueBran Vitatop Review

The base of this vita reminded me of the MultiBran, but I liked the BlueBran a lot more! You can only see 2 blueberries in it and I was a little disappointed until I saw that there were more blueberries baked in. I still thought there could have been a few more blueberries though,as it would have been nice to get some in each bite. I thought the fruit addition made this vitatop much better than the Multibran, because there was much more flavor contrast with the bran and the blueberries.

I liked how the vitatop was dense and not too dry--a big plus. It was nicely sweetened, but not ridiculously sugarly like some blueberry muffins can get. Unlike the MultiBran, this flavor held up in my parfait. I'd definitely recommend the CranBran or the BlueBran Vitatops over the MultiBran.
My Rating: A-

And now, my parfait:

This had Fage 0% Greek Yogurt mixed with a tiny bit of pumpkin, copious amounts of cinnamon, some unsweetened cocoa powder, and a few chocolate chips on top. I also had it with a spoon of dark chocolate dreams.

I was a little worried the blueberry flavor was going to be weird with my standard greek yogurt combo, but it tasted great!

I'm pretty much determined to have a great day, because I'm tired of feeling icky and sick lately! My Mom's off work today, so hopefully after the air conditioning dude comes, we can go do something fun :D Have a lovely day, everyone--it's Friday!

Q: Do you take vitamins and/or supplements? Which kinds?

So I pretty much pop more pills than an 80-year old grandma. I've got 2 fish oil, 3 glucosamine/chrondroiton pills for my knees, 2 hyaluronic acid with MSM capsules (also for my knees), 2 women's multivitamin with iron pills, and a probiotic capsule 1-2 times a day. Um, I think that's it? I also take a calcium sometimes with meals. So that's 11-12 pills! Geez! I have found that the knee supplements do help me--I've noticed a difference when I stopped taking them for a little bit.

Do you take vitamins or supplements? Have you noticed them helping at all?

I loved that blueberry bran top too! I eat it straight from the freezer.

I just take a calcium chew & a B12 chew.

Adult vitamins made me ill like that so I had to switch to the kids chewable ones which I take a few times throughout the day - I don't exceed the amount recommended but I take enough so that it equals the adult amounts. I also take calcium supplements and I'm SUPPOSED to take Omega 3s but I always forget :(

LOVE the chocolate chips on top!

I take a multi, plus an extra B complex and a vitamin C, and a flax oil cap.

When I think about it, I will take Biotin and Zinc.

I take a multivitamin twice a day, calcium twice a day and fish oils (X 4) so 8 in total :)

Have fun with your mom!

Sorry you weren't feeling your best, I don't take vitamins (probably should) but I have heard they can upset your tummy.

Sorry about the tummy ills. Totally was the vitamins.

I can't handle adult vitamins for the same reason. So I switched to kids chewables and it's made ALL the difference!

I take flintstones chewables :-)

My nutritionist advised me to only take a chewable multivitamin. When you swallow a pill one, it sits in your stomach and causes nausea. The chewable causes no problems! I use Viactiv and it is delicious.

I definitely know what you mean...I've made the mistake of taking my Vitamins / Supplements too long after eating, and it makes me feel so sick!

And I'm seriously craving one of those parfaits you make all the time! I'm going to have to make that happen this weekend!

Oh, sorry about the bad night, but now you know!

To be honest, I don't really believe in taking all these pills. I think they may sort of mess up the balance in our bodies...and may have a more negative effect. I just get really wary towards man-made food and supplements...I'd rather get my nutrition from real, whole foods. Well that's just my two cents.

And oh mi god...you really are killing me with the looks of all those delicious parfaits1

I used to take a multi, but I am trying to do a little research on them (and different brands), so I have stopped for now.

I am tired of feeling sick and icky too! Blah! Hope you had a great day!

I totally agree with you on the BlueBran VitaTop review--pretty darn good. I don't like sweets, so the balance of flavors was great.

I think my favorite is the Banana Nut. If you haven't parfaited (I'm making up words now) with that one yet, it's worthy.
