Manic Morning

Hey guys,

I had the WORST morning yesterday. Somehow, I managed to turn off both of my alarms while still sleeping! That only happens to me when I'm incredibly exhausted, but it's no fun. I woke up randomly at 7:20, an hour after I was planning to wake up. I ran around getting everything ready and was out the door in 20 minutes to catch the light rail! I threw together a quick breakfast, but I didn't get to make oats like I wanted. I had a gingerbread muffin (an an extra one on the side), with oikos greek yogurt, a handul of dried berries, spoon of dark chocolate dreams, and some broken up pretzels:

I also had no time to make coffee! That pretty much sucked. Thankfully I don't have a big caffeine addiction, and I was perfectly fine waiting 2 hours and getting an iced coffee at Starbucks.

But unfortunately, Wednesdays are my longest day--and I had no time to pack a nice lunch. I threw an apple, a grapefruit, a clementine, and a Cliffkids Brownie Z-bar in my bag and planned to supplement with food from the campus store. Here's a recreation of that food:

I ended up getting a side garden salad (still a decent size) with a cup of fruit as well.

Classes went pretty well, thankfully! I had my biology quiz, and I got 4.5/5 (90%). I got all the anatomical questions correct, but I didn't remember that the enzyme amylase doesn't break down starch into glucose--it breaks it down into maltoses and dextrins. Amyloglucosidase is what breaks those down into simple sugars like glucose. Whoops.

We spent the remainder of time in biology doing THREE labs! 3 labs in 3 hours. Ugh, by the end we all just wanted to get out of there! I had been on campus for 9 hours, and I was definitely ready to go home.

By the way, I have a total knack for missing the light rail. I always get there RIGHT as the train closes it's doors, and then I have to wait either 10, 15, or 20 minutes for the next train, depending on what day it is.

Well, I finally got home and made a HUGE salad to fill my tummy. I was a lil low on toppings (no shrooms or tomatoes), but I had a cucumber that I sliced.

I also put on some goat cheese. For some reason, they don't have goat cheese crumbles in Arizona! I can't find them at any Whole Foods or anything. So I just crumbled it myself.

I also had a spiced pumpkin bowl with a gingerbread muffin:

I mixed the pumpkin with cinnamon, pumpkin pie spice, nutmeg, and a touch of maple syrup and molasses. I added a spoon of dark chocolate dreams, and crumbled a gingerbread muffin over it. These are SO good! I definitely have to make them again soon! Especially since there are no vitatop retailers around me :(

I went to the grocery store to take advantage of the double sale wednesday and stock up. Then the fedex guys came at 8:45 last night with my backpack--so weird! I didn't know they came that late. I also got my new phone! My old one very quickly lost the ability to hold a charge. Thankfully, I used that verizon upgrade thing and got a new one cheap. It's pretty snazzy:

And my backpack, sized for lugging around a hugh jass anatomy book and tofurkey sammies:

Alright loves, I gotta get ready for my History of Science class from 10:30-11:45. After that I've got a biology lecture from 1:30-2:45, then harp studio from 3-5. I seriously hope I don't have to play anything. I have NOTHING. I haven't practiced at ALL. I have my lesson tomorrow, too.... ugh. Hopefully I can find some time? Or else I'm gonna have to reconsider my harp goals.

Q: Do you ever sleep through your alarm, or turn it off in your sleep? If so, how often?

I only do it when I'm extremely exhausted. The last time (other than yesterday) was last semester during school. I usually set my second alarm later (30 min to 1 hour--I like to wake up really early to have relaxation time) to try to prevent this. I give myself enough time so I can be minimally rushed and still make it. But yesterday my alarms were set too close together (like 1o minutes). Anyway, what about you?

3 labs? you poor thing! I'd die!

I always sleep though my alarm which Is why I always make sure my mommy is on hand to wake me up :) I know, I'm like 2 years old.

I used to sleep through my alarm when I used a clock radio. For some reason, the radio would just never wake me up. Then I switched to a blaring noise that I would actually turn off IN MY SLEEP. I'd wake up way late, with no clue as to why my alarm didn't go off. So now I have the blaring alarm put on the other side of my room so I have to physically get out of bed to turn it off. That seems to wake me up! :P

I do it about once a year or less. I use my cell for an alarm and it's a very quiet sound. I usually wake up about 1 minute before it goes off but there are days...

That's the worst feeling in the world!
I'm always afraid I will sleep through my alarm but thankfully it has only happend once or twice. Lucky for me, my hubby's alarm goes off after mine, so I wouldn't be totally screwed if it happend, but it's still so upsetting.

Hope you had a wonderful day!

Sorry your morning was so crazy! I also turn off my alarm only when I'm exhausted. Glad you were able to do well on your bio quiz, though.

I love Z bars! :-)

And yes, I've turned my alarm(s) off without realizing it....I hate that feeling when you wake up thinking, "it just seems later than it's supposed to be..." before even looking at the clock.

Mmm, I love the look of that last pumpkin mix...

I don't think I've ever 'slept' through an alarm as I have major problems with insomnia, but I've been known to selectively ignore one every now and again ; )

You're coping fabulously with your schedule ~ 9 hours is seriously intense!

I rarely oversleep, because I am always...well, I don't have a relaxed sleep during school. Or during break. This summer I kept waking up in 5:30 am
Nice muffins btw, I'm going to make them soon!

Oh no! I'm so sorry to hear about the oversleeping. That REALLY sucks. I am usually relaly good about waking up but have defintely late a couple times to work....which SUCKS ASS because when you walk in, everyone stares at you!! *sigh*

But your day wasn't bad at all!! Good job on your quiz....and your salad despite few toppings looks DELICIOUS!
