Ugh. What a bad weekend! I ended up sick with a fever, chills, the works--with 2 exams to study for. On Saturday I went to CVS to pick up some cold/flu medicine. I wanted the stronger kind with the nasal decongestant pseudoepinephrine-- you know, the stuff they used to use in Sudafed.
Well apparently, some really classy people have used the pseudoepinephrine in flu medication to make meth. So now they've replaced most of the products with that with phenylephrine, which isn't as effective. In order to buy the stronger (still OTC) medication, I had to take a card up to the pharmacy where they gave me the box only after I signed an agreement swearing to the US Government that I wouldn't make meth. They also had to scan my drivers licence and enter in a bunch of data. After ALL that, I got my 10 tablets of Aleve-D. Ha.
My exams did go well today, even though I only got 4 hours of sleep. Believe me, I was feeling it! I kept almost falling asleep on my feet. I needed a coffee IV, but I was doing a pretty good job drinking it steadily ;) It didn't seem to help all that much, though! But who knows, without it I might still be asleep in one of the classrooms. ha!
Ok, funny story. So you might remember how I said that ASTYM thing at PT helped. That's the thing where they use a scrapey tool to break up muscle fibers that grew back in the wrong direction. Kinda painful, as you might imagine. But seriously, I'm pretty much game for anything. I just want the hip fixed, I don't care what it takes!
So the dude did that again today. We were talking about my Thanksgiving plans, and I told him I was going back home to Michigan. He was like, "oh good! Since you'll be wearing pants, I can do this to your whole thigh!" I should note that this process leaves some crazy bruises. Since AZ still has shorts-potential, he was keeping the tissue-breaking hidden above shorts level. But of course, since I'll be wearing jeans, none of that matters anymore ;) Ha!
This happened about 3 hours ago and it's been progressively bruising. That blueish-purpley part keeps getting darker. I had to take a pic though cause right now I think it looks hilarious:
I mean, who expects to come home from physical therapy looking like that? Haha. Don't worry though, it only hurts when I touch it. The muscle itself actually feels better.
Eats:
I tried a Fuyu persimmon for the first time:
It was really good! I ate it plain from my palm, like an apple. It was sweet, like a mix between a pear and a light hint of mango flavor.
Beverage of choice for sickness, with a health blogger twist ;)
Whole Foods had prepared watermelon on sale:
Not as good as in the summer, but still decent!
Veggie burger salads:
Cinnamon sugar popcorn:
A must when you're sick ;)
Pretty pristine apple oats:
Coffee jazzed up with some Coffeehouse Classics Vanilla foam and cinnamon:
Vanilla protein powder frozen yogurt ("faux-yo")
Ok, I got a question about my faux-yo method:
Anonymous says:Hey! So, it's the ultimate best when you catch it half-frozen. My freezer works overtime, so about 15-20 minutes after I stick the yogurt in the freezer, it's at a great consistency. Kinda like a Wendy's frosty, or something. When it's in there for a long time, it does get crystallized and hard. But if you leave it out room temperature for a little while, it starts to melt and breaks up. Then it's like italian ice consistency or something. So my fave method is to just leave it in there a little while so it's at that perfect half-way frozen consistency. I hope this helped, and thanks for reading!
"Hey, I check out your blog daily and I really want to try the frozen yogurt... I gave it a shot and when I went to get it it was all crystalized. How do you make yours look so smooth and creamy? Do you let it sit out of the freezer for a while to let it thaw out before you eat it? Let me know!! Thx!!"
Q: What are your Thanksgiving plans?
ALL my classes got canceled on Wednesday, so I was able to get an earlier flight that day. Unfortunately, there were no flights for Tuesday. I wish the teachers had let us known in advance! Oh well, it's all good. For Thanksgiving, a lot of my extended family will be going to my Uncle's house for dinner. He's a really good chef, and it's been a tradition since I can remember. What about you?

and thanksgiving is going to be spent running/racing a 10k, then chowing down on homemade vegan shepherds pie for me and my cousins!
My darling Anne! It sounds like you've had a rough couple of days, but I'm glad your exams went well! and it looks like some yummy foods can serve as a medicine in themselves, no?
I hope you feel 100% by Turkey day!!
Have a good night!

Ack, sorry you are sick. Glad you are getting some extra time at home! Bruises don't look fun, but if it's helping, it's worth it. I need to google this technique- am intrigued!
I bought some of that cocoa powder you like--will you make me some oats when you get here?
at least you get to be sick at home! I always hated being sick in college...
That's a crazy bruise!!! Hopefully you'll be able to relax once you get home and start to feel better :)
Loooove persimmons!!! Wish they weren't so dang expensive here, even though they're "in season"
sorry you are sick!, but hopefully the time spent at home is making you feel better ASAP!
I think I am the only one who had a really strange reaction to a persimmon. It made my mouth so waxy and numb feeling! it was beyond wierd, i couldn't take another bite!
thanks for the fro yo tutorial!
i hope you're feeling better today!
going to my parents' house for Thanksgiving - can't wait ;)
So glad that you could get the good stuff for your sickness! I hope that you get back to 100% soon! If I were in your shoes, there's no way I would have performed so well on any exam - props to you!
This is my first Turkey Day as a married girl, so we're all (my parents included) having dinner at his folk's house. I have to work at Bally's gym that morning so I'll be ready for the big dinner when it comes! Happy Thanksgiving to you!
Yeah, it's pretty ridic the stuff we have to do in order to make ourselves feel better because some jokers decided to be buttheads. I hope you are feeling better soon, or at least well enough that you'll be aces on the flight. :)
I had H1NI a few weeks ago and it sucked!
When I went to get my meds and had to sign my life away I was like to do you want my blood type and social security number as well.
Feel better! Continue drinking the fluids and soup.
Aren't persimmons amazing? I tried them for the first time a few years ago. They taste like candy to me...
wowza, you are one tough chick. If I were you I totally would tell people I got the bruises from rock climbing or something intense ;)
Sorry you were sick over the weekend! I got some sniffles after I got my flu shot, too.
That is one serious bruise! As long as it is doing some good, though, right?
hope you are feeling better!!
the pseudophedrine thing reminds me of glee :)
