Hope you've had a wonderful start to your New Year. I've pretty much been the chief breakfast-maker lately for my family. The current special: Apple Oats
1/3 cup oats
1 chopped apple
Cinnamon
Cocoa powder
Stevia
Spoon of chocolate pb
For my mom and myself, I do the above combo. My dad likes simpler combos, so for him I just have the apple, cinnamon, and a dash of stevia.
We went to the gym before lunch. The New Year's Resolution crowd was already starting to crop up--it was so busy! January and February are my least favorite gym months because of the mass amount of people vying for machines.
This YMCA has a sign-up sheet and a 45 minute time limit. My sister and I signed up for 2 ellipticals after waiting 10 minutes, and when we were about to get on, this one woman came up and told my sister that she had signed up for her machine. My sister went over to the sign up board with her and pointed out that those were her initials in the time slot. My sis said that it looked like she had tried to alter the initials, too. The woman tried to BS her way out of it by being all like, "ohh I must have signed up for #1..." but there were only 2 of these Matrix ellipticals and I was signed up for #1! So there was no way she was signed up for either of those machines in the whole column. Thankfully she just wandered off to the other side of the gym and didn't try to put up a fight. Some gym-goers can get so ridiculous over machines! I mean, I know some people can make an honest mistake (I have to repeat the machine # over in my head til I get there!), but she definitely wasn't acting like it.
After a good workout, I came back and had the leftover acorn squash with sweet potato and black bean stuffing:
Topped with goat cheese. Such a delicious recipe!
Salad too, of course:
I needed some new jeans but since I despise jean shopping, I've been putting it off. I finally went to The Buckle today and got TWO pairs of jeans in record time! Of course, they had to be hemmed, but at least The Buckle does that for free. When you're barely 5'0 tall, even the "short" sizes are too long ;)
Q: Do you notice an increase in the number of people at your gym right after New Years?
I sure do, and it bugs the heck out of me when people aren't courteous about machines. I mean, it's awesome if people want to make healthy changes in their life. I'm all for that! It just annoys me when people are rude about using the gym equipment, and then also "mysteriously" stop coming to the gym after 3 weeks. It's like, what's the point?
Anyway, hope you guys staying warm wherever you are. It's freezing here!

I am so amused by the overflow of diet commercials, books and ads right now.
Every January, our complex gym gets a bit more crowded, but it usually only lasts a few weeks. Haha, I guess people have good intentions but they never seem to stick with it.
Good for me because there is only one treadmill!! LoL
Happy New Year love!
haha oh goodness, I am so grateful for being a yogini... I love having a nice relaxing workout -- free of crowded diet and fitness crazed folks!
I haven't been to the gym yet because I am traveling for work. But I wonder how many people will actually show up for the 6am trekking class I take... LOL
I love your brekkies. Seriously can I come over :o)
I hear you on the pants. I didn't realize the Buckle hemmed?? Hmmmmm......
My gym is very small and I haven't noticed anyone extra today, but the weather was pretty crappy. We'll see on Monday.
The Apple Oats look great, b/c of the cocoa of course!
And as for the blogging disclosure rules...girl, i think we agree that only super big timers are getting rich at this blogging thing and the rest of us dont try to ever not admit to getting free products when we do. But if one does forget, and then they attach those huge fines for failure to disclose is a bit much...boy oh boy! LOL
Sorry that was rambly :)
And yes, it's cold here! And thank god i go to yoga not gyms b/c yes they are always crowded in Jan!
Your oats look SO chocolatey! YUM!
Happy 2010,
Katie
It's even been crowded at my little apartment gym! I can't wait for the crowds to thin back out...
Oh so typical. Happens every year at my gym at home and at school. It's really annoying!
Glad you found some jeans! I even have a hard time sometimes, and I'm 5'3"!
Oh wow, that woman sounds scary! Good for you for standing up to her :)
And yay for 2 pairs of jeans! Jean shopping always takes me forever. I'm so picky!
I've only been to my gym once since the new year, but I have a feeling it's going to be a bit more crowded. I wish people would realize that if they just went moderately throughout the year, the rush to get fit in January wouldn't exist!
ugh i HATEE the new years resolution gym goers. it throws off all the regulars style. its fine it will fade in like 2 months anyways haha
Woah to the almost eliptical rumble! That would have been annoying. I refuse to go outside in this weather - yesterday at work it was BRUTAL!! Why can't I work somewhere warm?! ;)
I agree. I think it's funny that everyone decides to change their life on Jan 1st..it probably won't last, but who am I to tell them that... Anyways, Those cocoa apple oats look divine! :D
I HATE jan and feb at the gym... ugg it makes me not want to go. I normally end up sneaking out of work at lunch time and hitting up a spin class, that way I know I'll get a bike :D
January and February are always terrible at my gym too. I can never find a machine until about March ; )
Those oats look fabulous!
Sarah
Hey Those are some interesting recipes I'm going to have to try some out. check out a couple i have to at my blog
I know it's frustrating to have all those people there, but I also get sort of inspired and hope it's the year some of these people will really get healthy
I am still not a gym regular, but my husband did mention the same to me.I guess it is going to be like this until January end and then it will subside, although I hope people take this up for real.
Love your apple oats!
